This past year I started using Desmos (free graphing website) because each function is graphed in a different color, it's quicker to enter an equation, and it's available on so many devices. I used to project my teacher calculator, then moved to the emulator on my computer. We do plenty of practice in class so the kids with other models bring their manual, help each other, and use my computer to Google it. I change the seating after that, but they get to know others with that same model.Īfter they've got graphing, plotting, tracing, and tables down we just look at new buttons and calc functions (like linear regressions) infrequently.
I get the bonus of them talking to and helping each other to start so it's a nice breaking-the-ice bonding thing as we move into more problem solving group work. I can show one or two then they teach the rest of the group.
